Hey guys!

Oldschool Tavern refugee here. I'd have signed up under my real name (which is Ty (if you're going to call me anything, call me that)) but the forum demands three or more characters, so that's but an impossible dream, I guess. I also used to wax lyrical with Monk on a regular basis, but he probably doesn't remember because I think he was like 13 at the time, or something. And he was still miles better than me. Scary thought. Anyway, you came to see some art, didn't you? May as well set up a semi-permanent base of operations here and stick around for a bit. Here's what I do. There are genitals afoot, so if you're at work, I suggest you hold off until you're safely home again. Thanks for looking!

An oldie but a goodie. This one basically got my 'career' on the go; if anyone has played Gaijin Games' excellent BIT.TRIP series, they'll know who this is.

Another one for Gaijin, this image is essentially the 'box art' for Bit.Trip RUNNER. Or, like, whatever digital releases have instead of box art.

This one's a collab with fellow Tavern refugee NHOJ, who provided hilariously excellent linework which I then mucked up with my excuse for colours.

Team Meat's namesake.

This one's my most recent, a mock movie poster for a friend's indie comic hero, Ted Bear - possibly the greatest piece of literature I've ever read.

Looking forward to February and beyond!

Very cool work. Love Bit.Trip (Beat to be exact, haven't gotten to play the others). And love the meat boy piece. Also a lot of fun.

Your bit.trip.Runner piece is by far the one I always come back to and stare at in wonder. It is the one that feels most like I'm seeing an actual glimpse of a moment with a character (super meatboy is close to having that) and not just a pinup sketch that you made ridiculously gorgeous with your insane coloring skills. You can render like a mofo, you know how to use shapes and design, and you've got the cock to your walk when it comes to completing a professional looking image. I just want to see more moments like that, where it doesn't feel so staged.

Time to get all Tyra Banks on your top model ass. Sure, you can take a picture of standing there looking pretty, but I want to see you make it all look natural and fierce.

Yes, thats right. I summoned forth that which is far more evil than anything Hell can ever offer, and referenced Tyra. But I figure you either hate or love me, and in either case I am allowed that.

I always found your stuff difficult to critique, but i want to try. I think you spend a lot of time working on small details, i think this is probably your most favorite thing to do. Your images are always in a very large format and i suspect you wish you could post them at even larger sizes. I'm not even sure i have my monitor properly tuned to handle all the subtle things you put into these. But I think when you focus on little things you might lose sight of the bigger picture. The last one is the main offender of this type of thing, the ted bear. It's composition is very boring. This might have been done on purpose though to mimic how boring and straight forward movie teaser posters usually are. I don't know. The bit. trip runner thing is very beautiful and probably my favorite here, but i suspect if i looked at it from across the room i would not know shit from fuck about what i was looking at. Especially considering the background is more or less the same color as the guy. That game is so colorful, why you no use more colors?

I also think you need to start factoring on more complete backgrounds. The miyamoto background is very terrible, i'm not scared to say it, it kind of hurts the piece. The epic skies are always nice, but when i clicked on this thread and somehow knew i was going to be seeing them before i saw them. I imagine if you applied your skill for detail towards doing more architecture and landscapes you might become an unstoppable guy or something. This might require looking at reference. But see i damned you for doing too much detail crazy stuff but now i'm saying i want you to do it more with another thing, this is what i mean about 'difficult to critique'. These are all wonderful and impressive.
I'm kind of sick right now, i don't know if this made sense.
Just like old tiems.

Also miyamoto looks like he could only afford one breast implant.

woaw! that's some fine rendering!
pretty impressive stuff, only thing I would say is maybe actually cut back a bit on the super-finish of things, loosen up and have some areas be blockier and less finely rendered and glossy. Like on the asian guy with the monster, it's so sharpely rendered I'm cutting my eyes on it - maybe soften the hair a bit, don't need to see every strand.
Maybe it's a conscious style choice of yours, but personally I'd like to see some softer bits to contrast the detailed rendering.

I dig the first piece best of these, exciting colours, stands out from the sepia-crowd, and it has a good balance of details versus simpler/looser areas.

second thought, the sepia is probably a good thing since most of these images are creepy/gross in content, so that fits, I'm just too lame to handle it ...

Welcome to SatelliteSoda Ty! I remember staring in awe at your work on Sketch tavern more than a couple times. Really dig how unapologetic everything is. Meatboy's gotta be my fav of this bunch.

Agree with mara on toning down the super-finish. It's drawing my eye all over the place. I'd love to see just one or two built up main areas just to really push that focal point.
