Illustration galore. Feel free to crit your hearts out. Be kind though, I'm terribly fragile. Like a daffodil.

I hope the image sizes are A.O.k.

Dram, thanks bro. I appreciate the positive feedback. The Noid did, in fact, pop-up in Canadian advertising back in the 1980s. I have this little figurine of him that I picked up from Domino's Pizza when I was a kid. Just terrific. Maybe I should somehow fit the Noid into a piece with a platoon of Canadian Soldiers. Maybe.

YO. nice job all around, keep posting more.

some crits in my opinion, in the Domino's piece, i think the flashlight effect could have been done a bit better comparing with your other pieces.

here the mood looks weak, like i don't feel is an alley in the night and some cops with flashlights, looks a bit artificial if you know what i mean, like you should push the values more, the piece is great, i'm just throwing this out IMO to make it better.

and in the storyboards, the guy that's jumping looks weird anatomically, and you seem to had done your homework on that field because i don't see those issues in your other pieces. my crit would be on the neck and shoulders area i think.

again, good work man! hope this were useful and post more!

Thanks RyuDan,

I totally agree about the Noid piece. I coloured the bugger in 2 hours, I was in a bit of a rush when I did it. So, I do totally agree and appreciate your input. I think a lot of the shadows are a little flat and static. I think the inclusion of a small amount of texture would also help the set feel more like a proper alley.

I totally see what you are seeing with my gimp character. I redrew that man probably 3 or 4 times. I eventually landed on this one as the mistakes were less overt than the previous. I think what he is missing on that storyboard is a neck.

Thanks again, man, really good crit. I appreciate it.

I really like your inks, what are you using? They look digital, particularly on that Canadian piece. Your line work is great.

On your story boards, I'm curious what the intent was on the blocks of light in them, is that meant to be physical light in the scene, or a tool for focusing the viewers attention?

Pretty sure the blocks of color is the light through the window, which you can see is established in the first board. :]

thanks, dudes,

I've tried a little of everything over the years, Richeson brushes (which really are terrific by the way), Stadlers, Microns, watercolour brushes. I really mean everything, including cardboard...don't ask. I finally landed on these Pental brush pens (the slightly more expensive of the two designs I've found). The ink flow is tremendously consistent, as is the ability to go from an incredibly thick to precisely thin line. They're really great. The only drawback can be excessive ink flow at times.

Actually, the light blocks started out as direct light through the windows -- but after a while I just started placing them wherever I felt the image required a punch of attention. So, yeah, kind inconsistent across the board, but it turned into an experiment more than anything in the end.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Okay, while I have some time here is a little more. Triumphs and failures alike...

A couple of images I did for a poster for the Soderbergh film 'the Limey' (I'm not overly fond of the second one, but what are you gonna do...well, redo it I guess):

Gotta second that, really effective colors in those storyboards. They match really well with the lines too.
Personally I'm not a huge fan of the Noid page, especially when seeing it in direct comparison to the storyboards, which seem on an entirely different level. In the latter the shapes are much better thought out, the colors are way more effective and everything just seems much more professionally done.
That's just to say I really do love those storyboards though, hahaha, would love to see more along those lines!

Thanks dudes.

I agree, I really have to tackle that Noid page again. I like it, aside from the colour palette.

I really do appreciate the kind words about the colour palette on the storyboards. It is something I am constantly trying to refine.

Here is a little more of what has been goin' down:

Okay, Jesus, has it really been this long? I seriously thought this message board was gone. I checked months back, and I couldn't find it. Anyway, new stuff, hazzuh! I've been busy freelancing and working on, what, like three different comic projects. So busy.

10 comic pages for Vehicle Magazine. There was something like a 4 month gap in-between the first five (which appeared in issue 2) and the second (which appeared in issue 3) -- which is why there is a noticeable change in quality. I'm planning on condensing and redrawing the first 5 and combining them with the next 5, and then have a pretty snappy comic proposal. Cha-cha-cha!

Did I ever post this?

and a sneek peek, I cannot give you anymore than this so don't ask, of a series I am working on with writer Kurtis Wiebe. This is just a character design for one of our main characters. This is all you get!

Oh, manlords, that's all I can post for now.

You've got some great work here bro. Loving the retro style you've got flowing through your work. Your sequential stuff is really strong as well. Cool shit man!

Solid work, I like your sense of storytelling and your use of colour, as well as the white noise texture. I'd be interested to see some different face (facial? haha) designs, maybe less realistic and more designy kind of stuff, and see how it works with your style. I think that could be cool. keep it up

Thanks kats, love getting any and all feedback. I dig the notion of trying more designed features sussman, I appreciate the thought -- now I just need the right project and idea to implement. Thanks again.
